I caught the bus to Center City and we pulled up to the City Hall stop. I heard a woman speaking loudly, repeating something, and as she moved up to the exit I realized she (a well dressed person in her 50s) was calling out, “No Kings! Saturday! No Kings!”
Another person, an elderly man, said, “That’s right,” and there were other murmurs of assent.
“Be there,” she went on, and began to talk about all the ways the present administration is taking health care away from poor people.
She kept talking and people (including me) chimed in, until everyone who was getting off, including her, had descended and gone on their way.
Everyone except me on that bus was Black.
If you’ve got the Black people showing up for something, too, not just progressive Whites, you might actually have a real demonstration. Black people have a lot more to lose by showing up where police can attack.
