In my seventies, I’m taking an art class and a French class, and learning pre-algebra with Khan Academy. I’m doing these things even though I was good at math, went to college for art, and studied French for three years in high school.
I am realizing that the “order of operations” (PEMDAS) is not something innate in math, but more like a set of highway signs or some game instructions.
There’s also something just plain neat about the fact that, in French, “I miss him” is said as “Il me manque,” which translates literally as “He me misses.”
Further, I am allowed to try a sort of drawing I’m not good at, with poor results, and not give a damn that everyone else’s drawings are much more tidy and coherent
Anyway, I’m old. I can do what I want. And I want to re-learn some things.
