There is a secret many adults don't know, and that is . . . science is tremendous fun. It makes your brain hurt, but in a good way. It turns your world upside down and makes you see it from above and below and behind. It surprises you, and makes you shiver, and causes the world to look very big and strange and exciting. I try to share that fun with my students.
In fourth and fifth grade at The Haverford School, science is ideas, approaches, terms, and experiences across the width of the discipline. The curriculum spirals through various life sciences and physical sciences, giving the boys familiarity with the things they'll be studying in more depth later on. We have fun with many hands-on activites, and the reading and classwork are challenging and interesting.
