5th Grade Routine
- Class meets four times a week.
- You will have a reading packet for each unit. Keep the packet in your science
folder. The reading is also on this web site.
- There are four regular homework assignments a week: a science article,
questions on the reading ("Questions"), an article
summary, and notes for the current reading ("Notes").
- There may be other assignments as well.
- The article summary may be done ahead of time. The article summary
is due every week, even short weeks. Even during the full moon. Even
after a vacation, or before one, (though not during a vacation. Even I have
my limits).
- All homework is graded: A check-minus is unsatisfactory (60). A
check is satisfactory (75). A check-plus is excellent (100).
- If you miss an assignment, the homework is still due. Homework which is
handed in one class period late (unless you're out sick) will be given a lower
grade. Homework which is not handed in at all will affect your grade by one
point per missed assignment starting with the third missed assignment.
- If you miss homework because you're sick, you can make it up after you
get back. If you're not very ill, it's easier to call in for homework and
do it at home than try to make it up later. That way you stay caught
up with your work.
- Grades are based on quizzes, tests, homework, projects, and class participation.
- There is a quiz every week and a unt test at the end of every unit. I'll
post the date of the unit test on the fifth grade page at least a couple of
weeks beforehand.
- Percentages for grading: 60-69=D, 70-79=C, 80=89=B, 90-100=A. More
details? See the grades page.
